Tour Guide System

Tour Guide System Equipment

  • From the lips of one to ears of many. One person with a transmitter can talk to many participants with Receivers.
  • Transmission range is about a thirty foot circle around the Transmitter.
  • Belt Pack Transmitter uses batteries a lot faster than the Receiver. Expect to change Batteries every four to six hours. Either nine volt batteries or AA batteries are used depending on the Belt Pack Transmitter. Extra batteries are included.
  • Receivers use AA batteries and last from 16 hours to three days depending on the Receiver.
  • One weakness for whisper interpretation is the interpreter must be near the participants. That means the Podium speaker and the interpreter will be speaking at the same time and that might interfere with participants who don’t need interpretation. It is rude to interfere with a participant listening to a podium speaker in a meeting in Hawaii because he/she had to travel two thousand miles to be here and it costs hundreds of dollars a day to be in a Hawaii ballroom.

Belt Clip Transmitters

Tour Guide System Equipment

The Tour Guide is fitted with a Belt Clip Transmitter and a Microphone. The participants on the tour have a radio Receiver with Ear Speaker. The voice of the Tour Guide is transmitted to everyone who has a Receiver and Ear Speaker. The Tour Guide system can also be used to assist interpreters while providing a service called “Whisper Interpretation”. That is when a Simultaneous Interpreter sits in the meeting room as a participant in the audience and whispers the interpretation to people around him/her. “Whisper Interpretation” is not recommended, even with the tour guide system because it is hard on everyone. It is hard on the Interpreter because he/she has a hard time hearing the Podium Speaker while whispering to a participant in the audience. Whisper Interpretation is hard on the English speaking participants who are unlucky enough to be within listening distance of the foreign language speaking Interpreter. It is also hard on the foreign language speaking people listening to the whisper interpretation because the Podium Speaker interferes with the Interpreter’s voice The Tour Guide system allows several participants to listen to the Interpreter. It allows the interpreter to stand a few feet away from the audience. The transmission range and duration is limited by the battery. This system doesn’t provide the Interpreter any work space or a direct connection to listen to the podium speaker.
